Carrefour launched a solidarity campaign to help those most in need in connection with the impacts that the new covid-19 has had on society as a whole. At the same time that we are experiencing a complicated condition for everyone, many companies have shown themselves to be effectively concerned about the future of the country.

Obviously, if we look at it from a very critical perspective, we will defend the position that the egalitarian world, fair for everyone, as our old Marx wanted, will only exist.

However, after the end of this stressful period in which we are living, without a doubt, we will pay more attention, or better said, we will value more the companies that provide more help to those who have fewer resources to endure the madness of the capitalist world.

Carrefour launches solidarity campaign “We need to return part of the profit to society”

About Carrefour's campaign to reduce the impact of Coronavirus

Carrefour launched a donation campaign worth 15 million reais in the form of food and basic baskets for families that are being impacted by the new coronavirus. Furthermore, the standard retailer will seek support from suppliers and consumers.

According to Exame publication, O Carrefour will allocate donations to eight NGOs that operate in regions where there is a greater accumulation of stores, to help people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

What has been done so far?

According to official information from the company, around 2.3 million reais has already been donated to city halls and governments, such as the city of São Paulo, which received around 1 million reais in basic food baskets. Consumers can make contributions through a website or when purchasing items in Atacadão stores.

The vice-president of institutional relations at the Carrefour Brasil group, Stéphane Engelhard, said that as isolation becomes essential to protect thousands of lives, he will continue to understand that the company's essential social role is to provide help to those in need.

He also said that collaborating with society, especially in this complex event that does not know when the end is, is the role of large companies to ensure that impacts are minimized. He said:

“We are a company listed on the stock exchange, which aims to make income, we cannot forget that. But, in this event, we need to return part of the profit to society”
